Experience Kalari: An Ancient Indian Martial Art (complete Beginners and Intermediate students welcome)

Kalaripayattu is an ancient Indian martial art and is a complete system of body-orientedf therapy with an emphasis on the expansion and development of the senses; a paradigm commonly called 'when the body becomes all eyes'.

Kalari gives us a framework for understanding how we exist in the world and practical guidelines to harmonize ourselves with our ever changing inner and outer environments.

The practices are multidimensional, incorporating concepts of power and focus - allowing us to feel a closer connection to our ancestral animal and warrior lineages.

In this 2 hour workshop you will experience all elements of a traditional practice which will be focu sed on grounding, step work and building your foundations - all central concepts in this style of martial arts.

You will move on to practice unique flowing movements within the warms ups, core strengthening and kick sequences as well as more complex postures/full body mudras, animal stances and flows, and evasive/defensive techniques. These can be practised as stand alone exercises or incorporated into existing movement routines or creating new rituals to energise and strengthen your body and mind.

This session is going to give you a different way to develop your personal practices and discipline.

ELLIOTT TREVES

Originally from California, Elliott Treves is a dedicated Kalaripayattu practitioner, teacher, and lifelong student of movement and inner well-being. His journey with Kalaripayattu began in 2017, and over time, the practice has transformed his life in profound ways. Elliott has traveled extensively across Australia to train and study under his teacher and Guru, Lalita, who comes from the lineage of Sat Guru Hanuman Das, the founder of the Kalariyil Dharmikam Ashram in Kerala.
With a background in yoga, meditation, sound healing, and music, Elliott sees Kalaripayattu as more than just a martial art—it is a dynamic path of self-discovery, discipline, and realizing one's potential. Passionate about holistic well-being, Elliott is committed to helping students develop focus, resilience, and harmony in their lives. Through dedicated practice, he believes that movement, meditation, and intention can be powerful tools for transformation, both on and off the training floor.
